For this Saturday we'll return to the east side on a fun route designed by Walt Matwijec, one of our experts in that region. Please note that the ride will start at 7:30 sharp! The route is 53 miles, less hilly than normal, and with two especially delightful features - the fast downhill on Independent Hill Road and the nearly four-mile gradual descent on Snail Shell Cave Road! After that, we'll enjoy some flat roads over in Rutherford County and return by the rollers on Taliaferro and our favorites of Cox, McDaniel, and Trinity roads.
Walt and the Eastside Rockets have pre-ridden the route this week and certify it as a great one! They note that after the gradual, fun descent on Independent Hill there's a right turn onto Almaville Road, which is often busy with traffic. We will be on that road for less than two miles, with an optional rest stop at the familiar Almaville Market at mile 15.3. After the ups and downs on Newman and Windrow and the long, fun ride down Snail Shell, we'll turn left on Hwy. 99 for the designated rest stop at the market in Rockvale at mile 26.6. Here's the cue sheet:
