Northern Adventure!

  • Northern Adventure from The Parthenon! 2500 West End Avenue Nashville, TN, 37203 United States (map)

If the weather is good and the rain holds off until the afternoon, on Labor Day we'll explore the great north and northwest, up to Joelton and Ashland City!  These are some of the best roads around, and our club gets to ride them only rarely.  It's not a particularly hard or hilly course, and a group of us pre-rode it a few weeks ago.  So it's all ready for you tomorrow at 8:00 from The Parthenon!  Here are the details and cue sheets:

Monday, Sept. 5 - 8:00 A.M.
Northern Adventure!
Centennial Park, 2500 West End Ave., Nashville 37203 - Parking lot on west side of The Parthenon, 28th Ave. North)

Our HBC tradition is to start our rides on summer holidays in Nashville to take advantage of the traffic-free roads. Sometimes we have an Urban Assault and stay in town. But sometimes we seize the opportunity to head out of town to the north and explore the great roads up there. That's the agenda for Labor Day. We'll start at The Parthenon and quickly head to the quiet northern countryside. There are options of 41 and 58 miles. Both routes cross the Bordeaux Bridge and go up Knight Road and Lickton Pike to the fun, gradual descent on Union Hill for 6 miles. Everyone will stop at the well-stocked market in Joelton and then head down Eatons Creek. The Short riders will enjoy the full descent on Eatons Creek and head back across the bridge into town. The Long riders will turn on Little Marrowbone Road, a real gem of our area. It's a pleasant, gradual downhill for 8 miles, although some riders can't help but take advantage of the terrain and traffic-free road by trying to set speed records! Then the Long riders will enjoy one of the region's most scenic roads, River Trace along the Cumberland, and after a rest stop at the market in Scottsboro will experience bucolic Sulphur Creek before heading back in.

If you haven't ridden these great northside roads, the morning will be both an adventure and a treat! Here are the cue sheets:

Let's enjoy the last hurrah of summer!  So join us for some fun!  And we are thrilled with all of our new riders this season!
