Fall Picnic & Ride!
The 1850 Venue at Lookaway Farms, 1850 Lewisburg Pike, Franklin 37064
We have an awesome day planned for Saturday! Conditions should be pleasant - cool at the start but warming up nicely! We have some fun routes in store, followed by some socializing! Special thank you to HBC Member, Neil Johnston, for helping to secure this beautiful event space. Check out their website if you're looking for a future event venue.
Here's all the info:
The ride starts at Lookaway Farms promptly at 9:00. Here's the Google Map link: Lookaway Farms. It is a beautiful setting!
Parking instructions: Upon entry, you can park at the top of the hill in the grass next to the barn (look for signs). Or if you prefer to stay at the bottom of the hill, please start parking on the left-hand side first until it's full, then proceed to the right side. Please do not disturb the main house.
Restrooms: There are a few restrooms available near the pool area and barn (there will be signs). There is also a restroom at the Exxon gas station down the street, which has snacks, sports drinks, etc.
Routes: We will roll out in smaller groups with the longer riders first. The routes head over toward College Grove and Eagleville. All routes do the scenic and not-too-hard climbs on Owen Hill. The Short route then comes back for a rest stop at the Bethesda Market at mile 23. The Medium route goes over to the Rutherford County flatlands, with a rest available in Eagleville at mile 21 or Bethesda at mile 33. In between those locations it does the nice climb on Cheatham Springs and rides Flat Creek, which is certainly not flat but is followed by the fun run on Cross Keys. The Long route goes all the way down to Mt. Vernon Road, with rest stops available at the market south of Eagleville at mile 23 and the Eagleville Dollar General at mile 28. Then it does Cheatham Springs and Flat Creek to Glenn and Ash Hill, with another rest stop at the Bethesda Market at mile 42.
Post-ride picnic: We will plan to meet at the top of the hill near the barn and pond. HBC will be providing Jack's BBQ and some soft drinks and water. Bring your own chairs, tables, tents, and beverages of choice to hang around with some of your HBC friends following the ride.
Routes: Here are the cue sheets for the various routes. We encourage you to download these before the ride. We will have a few cue sheets available at the start.
Picnic Ride - Long - 52 miles - GPS - Jerry Franks will lead. Rest stops at mile 23 at Hwy. 99 market, mile 28 at Dollar General (need to continue on Main St.), and mile 42 at Bethesda Market.
