Cool Springs Ride!
Sharecare parking lot, southeast corner of Cool Springs Blvd. East & Carothers Pkwy., Franklin 37067
This interesting ride will start your cycling week off on the right pedal! While many racers strive for fast times on this fairly hilly course, more moderate riders also enjoy the ride and will accompany our ride leaders. However, this ride is NOT for novices, due to both difficulty and traffic!
The standard route of 26 miles goes out Carothers to Gosey Rd and Crowder, and then takes Meek and McDaniel to Cox, coming in on Wilson Pike. Some riders will choose to tackle Gosey Hill and come back on Peytonsville-Trinity Rd, which is a shorter but harder 25-mile route. In mid-summer there's time to combine both Gosey Hill and Meeks-McDaniel for a 30-mile ride. Cue sheets with the various options are below:
Cool Springs Ride - Standard route - 26 miles - GPS
Cool Springs Ride - Gosey Hill route - 25 miles - GPS
Cool Springs Ride - Summer Long route - 30 miles - GPS
Fredia Barry has graciously agreed to head up the team for this ride, assisted by Peter Cacchioli , as well as others. We have the following caveats:
1) Not for novice riders - The roads we ride, especially on Tuesday nights, aren’t suitable for novice riders because of heavy afternoon traffic, major intersection crossings, and few options to bail out along the routes. While drivers in the area are generally accommodating, they expect us to know what we’re doing and not to impede them any more than necessary.
2) No official sweep on Tuesday night rides - As always, our leaders will make sure everyone who left the parking lot with our group has returned before they depart after the ride (and go looking for them if necessary); however, since we have a group of permanent leaders, Fredia and the others can't be expected to ride last all the time!
3) Every rider is responsible to know the route - Detailed maps and cue sheets will be provided with the announcement each week. With two new subdivisions opened up on Long Lane, the afternoon traffic is no longer accommodating there. So we’ve changed the route to eliminate Long Lane. We go out as usual across Hwy. 96 onto the Carothers extension, then we turn left on LongPoint and pick up what was the original Tuesday night route (designed by Tom Speer about 15 years ago!), going out South Carruthers to Arno and then right onto Gosey. As summer progresses, at times we’ll go straight to climb Gosey Hill instead of turning on Crowder to make the full course 30 miles.
