Brentwood Bikeway Improvements Plan PDF Print E-mail

Hello HBC,

I happen to be on the board of my HOA and received the email below from the City of Brentwood asking for comments on their 2009-2014 Capital Improvements Program. There is a link that allows you to review the entire plan in sections that may be of interest to you. After only a cursory view, I saw their plan for Bikeway Improvements and thought you would want to see the City’s plan. For your convenience, I’ve “cut and pasted” an excerpt from the plan for Bikeway Improvements below.

Selfishly, as one of those who live west of I-65 (we live in McGavock Farms next to BHS), I’ve been “jonesing” for bike paths on this side of the freeway that connect to the beautiful paths through Crockett Park on the east side of I-65. While the Justification below states “the ultimate goal is to have a City-wide bikeway system that links Brentwood High to Ravenwood High…”, there are no funds allocated in this plan to accomplish this goal. I don’t know about you, but neither me nor my family are getting any younger so I’d like to see a more aggressive plan in place to get the timing and urgency of this project moved up on the priority list.

What do YOU think? What other Bikeway Improvements should we, as the 300+ member HBC, make known to the City of Brentwood?

Thanks in advance for weighing in. As my 16 year old daughter would say….”hey…I’m just saying….”

Dear Resident:

The City of Brentwood is currently reviewing a proposed six-year capital improvements program for Fiscal Years 2009-2014.  This represents Brentwood’s effort for multi-year capital improvements planning and documenting the program for broader public understanding of community priorities and needs.  The proposed six-year plan was initially reviewed by the City Commission on April 3, 2008 and calls for the investment of public and private funds to upgrade and expand the existing infrastructure in major program areas such as utilities, transportation, parks and recreation, general facilities and equipment, storm drainage and beautification.

The City is interested in receiving your organization’s comments and suggestions on the proposed program, particularly as it relates to the overall priorities and schedule for completion and the resources and funding needed to carry out the program.  We would appreciate your participation in an effort that will hopefully lead to betterment of the community.

If you are interested in participating in this process and would like to view a copy of the document, please point your browser to the following link: http://www.brentwood-tn.org/Departments/finance/Downloads/CIP/Index_09.htm If you would like to receive a bound copy of the document, please contact me at 371-0060 or e-mail swinford@brentwood-tn.org.  After your review, we would ask that you return written comments on the program to the attention of Michael Walker, City Manager, at the address below, or e-mail walkerm@brentwood-tn.org no later than Friday, May 2, 2008.  This will provide time for the City Commission and staff to consider your comments prior to formal consideration of the program in June.

Sincerely,

Carson Swinford
